Wing Surfing/Foiling
Wing foiling is often epic at King George. It has become extremely popular in the last few years, providing a new challenge and dimension to those looking for an alternative to windsurfing.
You can use the water anytime between sunrise and half an hour before sunset, as long as you have another board on the water with you. We have a What’s App group to facilitate this. There are usually people ready to foil if the wind is right.
Wing Surfing/Foiling is currently only permitted between the months of April to September, as mandated by Natural England. This is due to our reservoir being a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). We are continually working hard with Natural England and Thames Water to allow Wing Surfing/Foiling to happen year around, but no progress as yet.
You will need to be able to make progress upwind to be able to use the reservoir safely. There is some safety powerboat cover on a Saturday, but usually you are reliant on yoursefl being able to get back to launch area. You can walk back around the banks if necessary, but it’s hard work. So ideally get yourself qualified enough for upwind before joining.
